LSQ en cabaret is a festive evening celebrating the richness of creativity in Quebec Sign Language (LSQ). Co-produced by Les Filles électriques and MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels), this cabaret is presented in collaboration with Agence S, founded by Shirley Yu, which exclusively represents artists from the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities.
Hosted by Jean-François Joly, LSQ en cabaret will bring together about ten artists who highlight the diversity of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. Artists who were born Deaf, those who became Deaf later in life, cochlear implant users, and artists from different generations will share the stage. From magic to signed rap, along with other forms of performance, this evening showcases the vitality of artistic practices flourishing today in LSQ.
Originally conceived in LSQ, the cabaret is accessible to hearing audiences thanks to the presence of LSQ interpreters. It’s an invitation to discover artists, artistic practices, and an art scene that remains largely unknown, all in a welcoming atmosphere where connection is at the heart of the experience.
