Alliance Program
Focused on learning and mentorship, the Alliance program is the MAI’s artist support platform. Centered on the needs of participants, it supports marginalized artists, including Indigenous, racialized (including recent immigrants), members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, and disabled community.

Hosting a maximum of 10 artists and artistic collectives per year, Alliance is a unique support program conceived for artists from all fields who encounter systemic and structural obstacles. The program strives to eliminate barriers to their full participation in the visual and performing arts by offering customized financial allocations and guidance that are adapted to the learning and creative needs of each participant. Job Description and Tasks
Under the supervision of the Executive and Artistic Director, the role of the Alliance Program Coordinator is to coordinate the Alliance Support Program. This coordinator plays a mentoring role for selected artists, guiding them through their artistic processes and supporting the development of their projects. Furthermore, the coordinator provides valuable advice to support the artists in their professional growth. As part of this support role, they are also responsible for organizing various information sessions for the Alliance Program and handling the program’s administrative tasks. In addition, this coordinator manages the Alliance Program’s partnerships with other cultural organizations (CAM + MAI Dance and Centre PRIM + MAI partnerships), as well as overseeing the artists programmed at MAI who were selected through the annual CAM en Tournée program.

Tasks → Coordinator of the Alliance Program
– Coordinate the annual call for applications and information sessions for the Alliance Program, Stream 1 and Stream 2.
– Submit received applications to the Executive Director and the Evaluation Committee.
– Organize the evaluation sessions for received applications.
– Organize 5@7 networking events for the annual cohort.
– Advise and inform artists about existing resources within the local arts community.
– Advise and inform artists on the development of their projects (developing their artistic team, revising project proposals, fundraising, etc.).
– Organize monthly follow-up meetings with the selected artists.
– Assist with grant writing for the artists’ projects.
– Maintain up-to-date statistics on selected artists.
– Coordination of the CAM en Tournée for the MAI’s selected artists: liaison between CAM, MAI, Maisons de la Culture, and the artists; contracts with Maisons de la Culture and the artists; and processing artist fee requests.
– Coordination of the annual CAM + MAI Danse partnership: coordinating the call for projects, answering artists’ questions, submitting received projects to the Executive Director, CAM, and the evaluation committee, organizing the evaluation session, and supporting the winning applicant in developing their project in collaboration with the Artistic director until the project’s presentation at MAI.
– Coordination of the annual CAM + Centre PRIM partnership: coordinating the call for projects, answering artists’ questions, submitting received projects to the MAI’s Executive director, Centre PRIM, and the evaluation committee, organizing the evaluation session, and supporting the winning applicant in developing their project in collaboration with the MAI’s Artistic director until the project’s presentation at MAI.

Administration
– Prepare and monitor the Alliance Program budget in collaboration with the Executive Director.
– Draft contracts with participating artists.
– Submit payment requests to the accounting department in accordance with budgets established and previously approved by the Executive Director
– Prepare the annual report for the Alliance Program.

Other related tasks
– Secretarial duties, filing and archiving of documents related to the Alliance program.
– Attend MAI’s team meetings.

Required Skills and Qualities
-Various professional experiences in the Montreal area and national multidisciplinary arts sector
– Excellent professional experiences with visual and performing artists
– Excellent experiences in project management (planning, coordination, logistics, budgets, evaluation)
– Excellent knowledge of the government grants and private funding system
– Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
– Excellent spoken and written French, and very good spoken and written English
– Ability to work in a team and under pressure
– Creative mind, take initiatives, and rigorous

Working conditions
– 28-hour per week position
– Salary to be discussed based on experience and skills – minimum of $27/hour

Job Description and Tasks
Under the supervision of the Executive and Artistic Director, the role of the Production Coordinator is to coordinate a smooth running of the projects presented at the MAI. They are responsible for coordinating the projects presented each season in the MAI’s venues (gallery, theater, and café-bar) with artists, curators, and various MAI partners. In addition, they collaborate with the various MAI departments (communications, Public + program, technical team, accounting, artistic engagement, and venue management) to ensure the successful completion of MAI projects.

Furthermore, the Production Coordinator participates in the search for funding in the performing and visual arts, with the support of the Executive Director. In addition, they provide coaching and mentoring services to artists supported by the MAI in collaboration with the Artistic Engagement Coordinator, MAI staff and/or external experts (production coaching, grant writing, strategic and technical advice, promotion, etc.). This person must be familiar with the Montreal arts community, its professional associations and the coordination of performing and visual arts projects’ presentation.

Tasks

Programming

  • Participate in the coordination of the annual visual and performing arts program at the MAI under the supervision of the Executive and Artistic Director.
  • Participate in the development of the MAI programming calendar.
  • Participate in coordination off-site programming, if necessary.
  • Draft contracts, coordinate insurance, and fees for artists, curators, and partners in the performing and visual arts projects.
  • Organize and attend pre-production meetings with the technical director and artists.
  • Manage accommodation and transportation, as well as welcome national and international artists and curators.
  • Manage tax exemptions and visas (for international artists).
  • Follow-up agreements with producers and partners involved in presentation and production management.
  • Prepare posters, vinyl stickers, texts, and exhibition documentation.
  • Manage the transportation of artworks for the exhibitions.
  • Coordinate ticket reservations and update venue capacity in collaboration with the Box Office Coordinator.
  • Coordinate VIP invitation lists for all performing arts. 
  • Attend dress rehearsals, premieres, and exhibitions openings.
  • Organize post-mortems for each project presented at the MAI.


Administration

  • Help with grants writing for the selected projects, follow ups, and reports. 
  • Create production budgets in collaboration with the Executive & Artistic Director and the Technical Director.


Consultation and prospection 

  • Help with the coordination of annual calls for artists and curators projects.
  • Update lists and visual art and performing arts applications.


Required Skills and Qualities

  • Various experience in the multidisciplinary arts sector
  • Experience in project management (planning, coordination, logistics, evaluation)
  • Excellent knowledge of the visual and performing arts sector in Montreal and Canada
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet production deadlines

About the MAI
MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels) is a pluridisciplinary presenter in contemporary art that presents original creations in dance, music, theater, interdisciplinary arts and visual arts in three spaces: theatre, gallery, and cafe-bar. MAI presents an annual program and collaborates with various local, national, and international partners. 

Description of the position
The role of the Technical Assistant is to assist the Technical Director in his daily tasks and to welcome the artists in the venues, and supervise technical running of the shows and exhibitions. The employee participates in general maintenance of materials and equipment, as well as assembly and disassembly of equipment. 

Technical coordination assistance
-Attendance all the events listed in the MAI Programming (days, evenings and weekends)
-In the absence of the Technical Director, the Technical Assistant provides technical support for the performances in the theater, in collaboration with the box office and the cafe-bar team, as well as the artists and the show manager; ensure compliance and respect for safety rules and standards related to technology for workers and users of the MAI.
-Provide technical support for activities presented in the cafe-bar or any other special event.
-Assist the Technical Director with the logistics and technical coordination of events.
-Open and Closure rooms for our activities.
-Reports to the Technical Director on the progress of activities and on changes to production schedules.
-Monitoring security of spaces and equipment during working hours.

Maintenance of technical equipment and equipment
-Maintenance of materials and equipment, according to the Technical Director’s recommendations.
-Maintenance of electrical wiring and sound equipment.
-Restoration of the gallery, theatre, and cafe-bar (painting, plastering, etc.).
-Participation in the construction of all types of accessories, using specialized tools (according to safety rules).

Assembly and disassembly
-Set-up and dismantling of shows, exhibitions, and other events presented at MAI.
-Assembly and dismantling of the stands.
-Support during technical deliveries.

Other tasks
-Classification of technical files.
-Participation in the layout of work areas (offices, rehearsal rooms, etc.).
-Assisting the cafe-bar staff with refilling supplies.
