{"id":2797,"date":"2018-10-18T15:50:48","date_gmt":"2018-10-18T19:50:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/m-a-i.qc.ca\/?post_type=artist&#038;p=2797"},"modified":"2020-04-02T00:10:37","modified_gmt":"2020-04-02T04:10:37","slug":"sarah-elola","status":"publish","type":"artist","link":"https:\/\/m-a-i.qc.ca\/en\/artist\/sarah-elola\/","title":{"rendered":"sarah elola"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recipient of a CALQ Vivacit\u00e9 grant and a CAM-MAI joint mentorship for emerging choreographers to create her second solo, <em>La Pileuse<\/em>, <strong>Sarah Elola<\/strong> was born of blended contrasts. Her story abounds with multiple realities. She cast her first 15 years in\u00a0kaleidoscopic African tones, rural and urban, traditional and modern<strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>grounded in innumerable customs and cultures. It was in the savannah of the Land of Honest Men, in her native Burkina Faso \u2013 where, when one can walk, one can also dance \u2013 and in the Ivory Coast that she took her first steps, and grew up with this\u00a0organic integration of rhythm, dance, song and music in daily life.<\/p>\n<p>Accepted in July 2014 to the PEFAPDA (Artistic and Professional Training Program in African Dance) stream at Nyata Nyata (awarded the\u00a0Prix de la Diversit\u00e9 2015 du Conseil des Arts de Montr\u00e9al<strong>)\u00a0<\/strong>she strengthened her practice and choreographic reflection. She also joined the troupe as a dancer in\u00a0<em>Mozongi<\/em>, Nyata Nyata\u2019s flagship work (winner of the\u00a030e Grand Prix du Conseil des Arts de Montr\u00e9al), touring the\u00a0Congo\u00a0with the show in October 2015.<\/p>\n<p>For Eclectik 2016\u00a0at the MAI, she created her first solo piece,\u00a0<em>Dans le ventre de l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9phant marron<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>[In the belly of the brown elephant] which she would also perform at the\u00a0World Social Forum\u00a0in August 2016, and at FIDO (Festival de danse international de Ouagadougou)<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>in February 2017. In the summer of 2017 she was selected to participate in an intensive dance internship at the famous \u00c9cole des Sables in Senegal:\u00a0Stage International Danses Noires.2 \u2013 M\u00e9moire et \u00c9volution.
