Deaf and Hard of Hearing audiences

  • Deaf artists in the programming
  • Shows interpreted in Sign Language (LSQ and/or ASL)
  • Presence of LSQ and/or ASL interpreters before and after shows
  • MAI Deaf cultural mediator offers pre-show discussion sessions
  • Guided tours of exhibitions in LSQ and ASL
  • Vibrotactile pillows to access the sound in a production as direct vibrations

  • Dance performances with live audiodescription and tactile visit (in collaboration with Danse-Cité) 
  • All regular MAI staff have been trained as sighted guides by RAAMM

  • Relaxed performances: these take a more relaxed approach to noise and movement during the show.
  • Exhibitions tours and workshops with an art therapist
  • Loan of noise canceling earmuffs or a wheelchair during your visit

Public with reduced mobility

  • All MAI spaces are accessible to people with reduced mobility (gallery, theater, café, studios, dressing rooms, toilets, offices). The theater, gallery and café are on the ground floor. An elevator leads to the second and fourth floors, where MAI’s rehearsal studios and administrative offices are located.
  • Three curbside parking spaces are reserved for the disabled
  • A wheelchair can be borrowed for your visit.
  • Entrance: Double doors with electric opening mechanism.
  • Washrooms: gender-neutral, with accessible toilet stalls (no electric opening mechanism).
  • Support equipment: bring it with you and our team members will help you store and retrieve your equipment as needed. Please specify your needs when you buy your tickets or when you arrive at MAI.
  • 0$ tickets for accompanying persons.

Families

Free childcare during afternoon performances: professional educators are on hand and a show-related art workshop is offered to children whose parents go to see the show.

Community organizations

  • The artist invites you : A program that gives programming artists the opportunity to invite members of a community organization to attend one of their performances free of charge.
  • Regular collaborations with various community organizations

Body diversity

Comfortable chairs for all bodies: you can replace the traditional theater chair with a seating for all bodies (500-pound capacity).
Available for all events, in the theater, the gallery or the Café.

How do I get to MAI?

Parking

MAI does not have its own parking lot. There are three parking spaces reserved for the disabled, and a few spaces in the streets around the theater. There is paid parking nearby located at 3625 Parc avenue or 3550 Jeanne-Mance street.

Metro station

  • Green line: Place-des-Arts station (9-minute walk).
  • Orange line: Sherbrooke station (14-minute walk).


Bus

  • Avenue du Parc : Parc/Léo-Parizeau (2-minute walk).
    Bus: 129, 80, 435
  • Avenue des Pins: Des Pins/du Parc (2-minute walk)
    Bus: 144
  • Rue Sherbrooke: Sherbrooke/Jeanne-Mance
    Bus: 24 (7-minute walk)
