SONIDO PESAO (Montréal)
Nov. 26, 8 p.m.
Along with their stand-out stage presence, *Sonido Pesao*’s distinctive sound, a heady mix of latino electro-pop, cumbia, salsa, kompa, and soul has earned them an ardent following.
Hailing from Salvador, Guatemala, Hungary and Quebec, and inspired by the energy of Montreal and its street life, this sextet of musicians and MCs, which first went under the name Heavy Soundz have performed extensively including an appearance at the 2015 Montreal International Jazz Festival. In 2016, the group released its pulsating second album—_*Reir para no llorar*_.
“The result: high-spirited and joyous […] It’s funky, syncopated, sometimes leaning into reggae, with a deliciously organic electro mixed in. At once sabroso and aware.”
– Yves Bernard, LE DEVOIR
